Originally from Agadir, Maâlem Mohmed Montari embodies a new generation of Gnaoua artists, both rooted in tradition and open to contemporary expressions. Initiated at a very young age within the Gnaoua confraternity, he grew up at the heart of rituals and spiritual ceremonies, developing a deep connection to this heritage. Through the guembri, the qraqeb and traditional percussion, he brings to life sacred chants and rhythms passed down through generations of masters. Revealed in 2019, he distinguished himself from his very first local performances and won the First Gnaoua Prize in Morocco that same year.
Since then, he has progressively established himself on national and international stages, taking part in numerous cultural and spiritual festivals. His music, rooted in tradition, opens up to contemporary fusions with jazz, blues and world music. Through his journey, Mohmed Montari asserts a clear approach: to transmit, renew and expand the reach of Gnaoua art beyond its territories of origin.
