Meryem Aassid is a singer-songwriter from the Souss region who creates music that blends Amazigh traditions with contemporary sounds. She grew up listening to the songs of the Rays, and has forged a deep connection with this heritage, which she explores and reinterprets in her work.
Trained from a very early age at IRCAM, she has honed a musical sensibility that, over time, has absorbed influences from jazz, blues, and electronic music. With the Jazz’amazigh project, which she co-founded in 2019, she fosters a dialogue between heritage and modernity, blending traditional repertoires with contemporary harmonies.
Balancing artistic exploration with a deep attachment to her roots, Meryem Aassid asserts a unique identity, in which Amazigh musical memory is extended into open and contemporary forms.
