BIOGRAPHY

MAÂLEM HOUSSAM GANIA

Son of the legendary Maâlem Mahmoud Gania, knew as Guinea, and heir to an ancestral Gnaoua tradition dating back to Ba Massoud, Houssam Gania carries within him the very soul of Tagnaouite. Born in Marrakech, he grew up in a family deeply rooted in this musical heritage, alongside his uncle Mokhtar Gania and his older brother Hamza. From an early age, he distinguished himself through his mastery of Gnaoua traditions, while remaining open to global rhythms. His talent, combined with discipline and hard work, enabled him to develop a strong musical identity. In 2012, he accompanied his father for a concert in Belgium, marking the beginning of his international career. Two years later, in 2014, he founded his own group in Essaouira and performed in Morocco, England and the Netherlands. In 2016, he made a strong impression during the tribute concert to his father and Doudou N’diaye Rose at the Gnaoua Festival of Essaouira. That same year, he performed at Mawazine in a fusion project with Omar Sosa and Mehdi Nassouli, fully asserting his ability to transcend musical genres.
