MAÂLEM HAMID DKAKI

Born in Fez, Ahmed Dkaki is a Maâlem who trained under Maâlem Sellam, one of the greatest masters in Morocco. Leading his own group, he represents with precision the Gnaoua tradition specific to Fez. This style, known as “gharbaoui,” differs from those practiced in the South and Central regions of the country in its musical characteristics. Throughout his career, Ahmed Dkaki has performed internationally, notably in France, Belgium and Canada, while also taking part in numerous moussems across Morocco. The Essaouira audience had the opportunity to experience his mastery of the gharbaoui style in 2005 during a lila at the Gnaoua and World Music Festival. He also participated in the Meknes stage of the first tour organized by the Yerma Gnaoua association, contributing to the dissemination of this repertoire beyond its regional roots.
