Born in 1964 in Salé, Maâlem Bouchabchoub Benachir was introduced at an early age to the art of Gnawa, which he began learning in 1975 under the guidance of experienced Maâlems such as the late Maâlem El Khadir Chouki and Ould El Abdi. He gradually built his path by taking part in numerous lilas between Rabat and Salé, before co-founding the group “Jil Al Hay” in 1980. Over the years, he has enriched his experience through contact with several renowned Maâlems and has participated in various cultural events, including the Gnaoua and World Music Festival of Essaouira in 2014. Today, he continues to contribute, with commitment and humility, to the transmission and preservation of the Gnawa tradition in Morocco.
