Immersed in Gnaoua culture from an early age, Maâlem Abdellah Akharraz stands in the continuity of an ancestral musical and spiritual heritage that he upholds with rigor. Son of a Grand Maâlem and a member of the prestigious Gnaouas of Sidi Bilal confraternity, he was trained by Maâlem Boubker Guinea before refining his art under Maâlem Paca. He then continued his journey with the Tyour Gnaoua group, performing with them for fifteen years across all five continents. In 2010, he founded his own troupe and gradually established himself as a familiar figure of the Gnaoua and World Music Festival of Essaouira, where he develops performances rooted in the purest Tagnaouite tradition.
