BIOGRAPHY

I BUHORO

i Buhoro was founded in 2022 as a Rwandan arts collective dedicated to the preservation and transmission of cultural heritage through the arts. At the crossroads of dance, theatre, song and storytelling, the company develops an approach deeply rooted in collective memory, whilst reinterpreting it for contemporary generations.

Intergenerational transmission plays a central role at the heart of their approach. Through their programmes and productions, they foster dialogue between children, adults and artists around the traditional dances, songs and stories that form the Rwandan cultural identity. Their performances explore themes linked to history, resilience, and the construction of identities, through a stage writing style that is both activist and sensitive.

On stage, Iwacu i Buhoro displays a powerful collective energy, driven by the rhythm of body in movement. Their work fuses heritage and creation, affirming the vitality of a culture in perpetual transmission, where every gesture becomes a vessel of memory and meaning.
