A leading figure in Brazilian music, Carlinhos Brown is a multi-faceted artist, singer, composer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist and visual artist, renowned for his musical innovation, social engagement and the power of his percussive language. The first Brazilian musician to join the Oscar Academy, he has also been named Ibero-American Ambassador for Culture and Ambassador of Restorative Justice of Bahia.
Born in 1962 in Salvador, Bahia, in the community of Candeal, he played a key role in the emergence of Axé Music and Samba Reggae. With more than 800 compositions and over a thousand recordings, he stands out as one of the most prolific artists of his generation.
Founder of the Timbalada movement in the early 1990s, he has developed a distinctive and ever-evolving rhythmic language, driven by a continuous exploration of percussive forms and Afro-Brazilian heritage, establishing himself as one of the most creative and influential figures in Brazilian culture.
