BIOGRAPHY

MAÂLEM YASSINE EL BOUR

ESSAOUIRA’S NEXT GENERATION

In Essaouira, in 1995, Yassine El Bour was born into a family that breathed Gnaoua music like air. At a very young age, he was introduced to the guembri and ritual songs by his uncle, a respected maâlem, who shared the soul and founding gestures of the Tagnaouite. As a teenager, he honed his sensibility with giants of the genre like Mustapha Baqbou, Mokhtar Guinea, and Ahmed Baqbou, who had a profound impact on his subtle yet deeply rooted style. In 2014, he founded his own group and won the young talent competition at the Gnaoua Festival in Essaouira, establishing himself as one of the promising faces of a new generation.

Since then, he has toured the stages of Morocco, from the Festival du Rire in Smara to the Festival des Mélodies Gnaoua in Marrakech, via Agadir, Azilal, and Assilah. His rigorous and vibrant guembri skills and the clarity of his voice make each performance a moment of sincere and powerful exchange. Faithful to the spirit of his masters, Yassine El Bour embodies a generation that keeps the Gnaoua alive with respect, freshness, and intensity.
