MAÂLEM REDOUANE EL KASRI

VOICE OF THE NORTH

Redouane Kachchabi, aka Maâlem Redwan El Kasri, was born in 1991 in Ksar El Kébir, in northern Morocco. From childhood, he was immersed in the deep rhythms and spiritual songs of the Gnaoua, which quickly became a second, intimate and vibrant language. He learned the art of the guembri, gradually forging a style rooted in tradition but open to the world. Over the years, he has made a name for himself on regional and national stages, where his sensitive play and authentic presence have built a loyal and growing audience. In 2024, he marked a turning point when invited by the Berklee College of Music to the Gnaoua and World Music Festival in Essaouira, where he forcefully asserted the heritage of Northern Morocco in a truly remarkable performance. In 2025, he released Derdba Chamalia, a bold, personal album that pays tribute to the derdba of his native region. With this project, Redwan El Kasri weaves a delicate link between ancient trance music and present-day accents, brandishing the voice of a Gnaoua true to his roots, but living in the moment.
