HERITAGE IN MOTION

The son of the legendary Maâlem Hmida Boussou, Hassan Boussou is a proud and exacting bearer of a precious musical heritage, which he shares with audiences around the world. He has been involved with the Gnaoua Festival in Essaouira since its inception, and embodies its spirit of transmission, openness and cultural dialogue.

With his traditional band, Boussou Ganga, and his French-based fusion group, Séwaryé, he c continues to explore the possibilities of the Gnaoua repertoire, blending it with jazz, African, and electronic sounds. His collaborations are always daring, yet remain rooted in the essence of ritual.

Hassan Boussou is one of the most faithful to his fans, offering audiences the power of his art, year after year. In 2016, he joined forces with American free jazz master Jamaaladeen Tacuma. In 2017, he set the Bataclan stage alight with an exceptional fusion concert alongside Mustapha Baqbou, Hindi Zahra, Tony Allen, Mehdi Nassouli, Karim Ziad, and Titi Robin.

In Essaouira, his performances are always highlights, where traditional lilas rub shoulders with musical innovation in a vibrant celebration of living heritage.
