MAÂLEM ABDENBI EL GUEDARI

Maâlem Abdenbi El Gadari was born in Marrakech and developed his artistic practice under the guidance of Maâlem H’mida Boussou. Having earned his stripes as a maâlem in his own right, he now leads the group Sidi Mimoun and works regularly in Italy, where he has recorded an album. His style is reminiscent of his origins, and his music evokes the Gnaoua traditions, specifically those of Casablanca and Marrakesh.

Abdenbi El Guedari is a regular at the Essaouira Festival, where he has played in fusion with major international artists, including French guitarist Titi Robin in 2006. In 2009, he caused a sensation by playing with Moroccan DJs Unes and Hak’x. A perennial favourite with the public, Abdenbi makes regular appearances on the Festival’s main stages and in the more intimate lilas sessions. He is currently based in Casablanca.
