Abdellah El Hommadi was born in Marrakech in 1980. He began his Tagnouite journey with his maternal grandfather at the age of 8, accompanying him to ceremonies and lilas. He then joined Maâlem Brahim Osman’s troupe, where he remained for eight years. Through this immersion he was able to acquire a solid grasp of the repertoire, as well as performing internationally in France, the Netherlands, Finland and elsewhere. After collaborating with other Gnaoua figures, notably Maâlem Mohamed Koyou, he founded his own troupe and pursued his artistic path with great discipline and consistency. His style combines respect for ritual forms and musical openness, with a particular focus on collective work. He has performed at a number of major events, including the Gnaoua and World Music Festival in Essaouira, Nagham Gnaoua in Marrakech, and the Festival des Roses in Kalâat Megouna. Maâlem El Hommadi embodies a generation faithful to the spirit of the Gnaoua yet is resolutely focused on stage performance.
