Abdelkader Amlil hails from Rabat and is one of the most respected guembri masters of his generation. Heir to a living Gnaoua tradition, he trained with some of the genre’s greatest masters, such as Oulad Abdenbi and H’mida Boussou, with whom he shared the stage for many years. His precise, deep, and lively playing has earned him invitations to numerous events in Morocco and abroad, including the Sons d’Hiver Festival in Paris.
Leading his own band, he also explores the links between Gnaoua and blues, in collaboration with Majid Bekkas. A regular at the Essaouira Gnaoua and World Music Festival, he performs both in the intimacy of the acoustic lila or in more contemporary fusions. He is a discreet musician with deep roots, whose voice and guembri continue to resonate with accuracy and intensity.
