HIND ENNAIRA

The strength of female guembri

Native of Essaouira, birthplace of Gnaoua art, Hind Ennaira stands out as one of the few women to master the guembri, a traditional instrument long-reserved for men. Self-taught and passionate, she drives this ancestral music with new energy and a confidently feminine touch.

Since her debut, Hind Ennaira made a powerful impression during her Gnaoua and World Music Festival performance with Maâlem Mohamed Boumezzough and Yaya Ouattara, delivering a captivating guembri solo which revealed a new aspect of the feminine Tagnaouite. Her bold talent has propelled her on the Moroccan and international stage, where she defends a “feminine Gnawa”, a symbol of empowerment and transmission.

By creating her own group, she asserts her musical identity and shares her vision of inclusive and modern Gnaoua, performing in Europe and in Morocco. In 2023, she performed a high-profile concert at Maqam Cultural Center in Amsterdam, where her growing success led her to share the stage with artists such as Salah Edinne Mesbah and the Andalusian Orchestra of Amsterdam.

As a fixture of the new generation of Gnaoua, Hind Enneira proves that this spiritual and rhythmic music belongs to everyone, and that the guembri resounds with strength and grace in the hands of a woman.
