Today, Cima Funk has firmly established himself as one of the international ambassadors of Cuban music. His name and image pay tribute to Cimarrons, runaway slaves who resisted oppression, while his music merges funk, Afro-Cuban rhythms and stage energy worthy of the greatest showmen. This former medical student chose to follow his musical calling and quickly stood out as a major figure on the contemporary stage, redefining Cuban sound on a global scale.
His first album—“Terapia” (2018)—known for the hit “Me Voy”, propelled him onto the international stage after his outstanding performance at SXSW and a much-acclaimed Tiny Desk Concert. Since then, he sets festivals on fire, from Lollapalooza to Coachella, attracting praise from legends such as George Clinton and Chucho Valdés. His second album—”El Alimento” (2021)—confirmed his funk Afro-Latin icon status.
With “Pa’ Tu Cuerpa” (2024), Cimafunk refined his style, mixing Caribbean and American funk influences. Surrounded by artists such as George Clinton, Big Freedia, and Trombone Shorty, he shapes an immersive musical experience where groove is king. More than an artist, Cimafunk is a sound revolution, embodying a new era for Cuban music and Afro-descendant diaspora.
