OULED BAMBRA

The Yerma Gnaoua Association continues to strive for the safeguarding and promotion of Gnaoua culture in 2023, with the new initiative « Ouled Bambra ».

Yerma Gnaoua has implemented a national dynamic with the creation of eight separate branches in 2021-2022, and is carrying forward its commitment to Gnaoua in the heart of their individual regions: Tangier/Asilah, Safi, Fez/Meknes, Marrakech, Agadir, Essaouira, Casablanca and Rabat.

The “ Ouled Bambra” project will make it possible to select a troupe of young Gnaoua from each of these 8 regions. The groups selected by their regional branches will go on to participate in the competition organised in parallel to this 24th edition of the Gnaoua and World Music Festival in Essaouira.

The competition will take place Friday and Saturday at the Mediatheque at Bab Marrakech, while the ceremony award will be held on Sunday.

The selected groups will perform before a jury composed of professionals from the cultural and musical world, notably including renowned maâlems, representatives of the cultural sector, and a member of the Yerma Gnaoua Association. This jury will undertake the mission of evaluating the musical and choreographic quality, as well as costumes and mastery of the guembri.

The winning group will receive-in addition to recognition by their peers-studio time to record a song under professional conditions. The second and third place groups will receive the creation of a complete professional profile, and will be invited to participate in tours organised by the Yerma Gnaoua Association to take place after the Festival.
