Les Amazones d’Afrique (Amazons of Africa)
How to raise awareness about violence against women, and message their impact without falling into aggressivity, reproval, or victimisation? Such is the challenge taken up by the pan-African female “supergroup”, Amazones d’Afrique, whose voices celebrate love and solidarity among women, in sisterhood. The Amazones d’Afrique were born in 2014, when the three super divas and activists—Mamani Keita, Oumou Sangaré, and Mariam Doumbia (also a member of the legendary duo Amadou & Mariam)—with producer Valérie Malo. The discussion revolved around the status of women and the idea for collective of female musicians and singers took root. Angélique Kidjo from Mali joined the trio and the adventure began, as the Amazones d’Afrique put their voices to service in the fight against all violence toward women and young girls. With a mix of traditional sounds, electro, funk, and blues, the Amazones d’Afrique bring to the stage the wild vibe of their albums, Amazones Power and République Amazone. Resounding girl power that will storm the Moulay Hassan stage, for a concert sure to be high energy.
