Benin International MusicalScène Moulay Hassan
A collective of musicians hailing from Benin, BIM offers a glimpse into the extraordinary creative effervescence of the region’s musical scene. These talented musicians revisit voodoo sounds infused with jazz, rock blues, gospel, and rap influences along with modern music. Guitar, bass, percussion, choirs, and voices lend a crazy energy to the music and voodoo dance. This project was born five years ago, spearheaded by Hervé Riesen and Jérôme Ettinger, and assisted by Denis Akobebakou and Aristide Agondanou, director of Awo Négoce and founder of the fanfare orchestra Gangbé Brass Band. The aim is to represent all the ethnic and musical diversity of Benin, bringing together musicians from all corners, from churches to clubs, from the National Ballet to voodoo convents.
